We’re just putting the final touches and will shortly be announcing a whole series of Friday night music and art events, Sunday open days, volunteering drop in sessions, fossil events, car shows and more starting in March and running through to November.
The thing that drives us here at the Trust is the way our work is helping to restore a sense of pride and identity in Brymbo in the wake of the loss of its industry a generation ago.
We’ve each felt the satisfaction that comes from ‘doing our bit’ to help the former works site come back to life. We want to build on that. Literally.
We reckon that getting contractors to do everything can lead to missed opportunities for us to do it ourselves, and to get that sense of connection to the site’s rebirth that ‘getting stuck in’ creates. Over the last 10 years or so we’ve steadily had a go at loads of small projects, and we see the potential to do loads more. To help us scale-up, and to make sure we do things properly, we want to bring a specialist into our growing team of staff.
The BIG Lottery are following this idea closely and they’re supporting us with an initial 18 months of funding to trial our employment of a ‘Self Build Coordinator’. It’s part of the Roots to Shoots project that is funded through to 2024, so if the initial trial works out there’s a good chance that we can continue the role far beyond 2020.
This role is hugely important to us, and we’re looking to see who’s out there…someone with a strong track record in the construction industry at management level, and preferably with an understanding of training programmes too.
Take a look at the ad below and get in touch if you think you could help us. Closing date is Monday 17th December.
